Our First Post – Nov 2019 Update
KIA ORA!
So here it is. My first blog post. Even though I am not much of a writer, I have aspired to be a blogger for a few years. We created this blog to document our experience in New Zealand and maybe share some tips in case any of our readers are looking into traveling abroad for an extended period of time on a Working Holiday Visa (or by other means). It’s an exciting time of our lives and even if nobody reads it (which looks like might happen), we’ll have all of these posts to look back to (cue “I Will Remember You” by Sarah McLachlan).
Back in August, Stefan and I played around with the idea of doing a Working Holiday Visa for New Zealand for a year. We have no kids. We have no mortgage. We love New Zealand. SO WHY NOT DO IT?! Our “idea” turned into more of a reality when we created a list of tasks that we would need to get done before the big move and found airtable.com (through my work actually) to be a great platform to organize everything. Honestly, the whole thing felt like it wasn’t going to happen until Stefan found some tickets from Portland, OR to New Zealand for just $637 using Google Flights.
So here we are. Selling everything and telling everyone that we’re going to miss them but that they are all welcome to come visit! I’ll miss my family, my coworkers, and the tennis community here in St. Louis — but I’m also ready to get out of here and do something new!
