My Patagonia W Trek Packing List for Women (Lightweight & Under 15 lbs!)
If you’re heading to Patagonia — whether hiking the legendary W Trek in Torres del Paine or exploring Argentina’s lakes and glaciers — packing light but smart is everything.
After spending a few days fine-tuning my own gear in preparation for the W Trek, I’ve built what I believe is the ultimate 15-lb Patagonia packing list for women (I’ll update this post with my honest review and takeaways once I’ve actually completed the trek!).
At just 5’1″, packing light isn’t optional for me — it’s survival. 😅 I learned that the hard way after trying to hike eight miles with a 20-lb pack recently… let’s just say my shoulders had a lot to say about that.
This guide focuses on lightweight, practical gear for the W Trek and other guided Patagonia adventures where meals and tents are provided. If you’re aiming to stay comfortable, dry, and efficient while keeping your pack under 15 pounds, this list is for you.
Less Weight, More Freedom
Patagonia weather changes fast — sunny one minute, sideways rain the next. The key to staying comfortable is layering, waterproofing, and packing quick-dry fabrics that can handle it all.
Because my meals and lodging will be provided, I’m keeping my base weight under 15 pounds by sticking to just one outfit per category (rotate and rewear!), choosing lightweight, multi-use pieces, and leaving anything “just in case” behind.
The Ultimate Women’s Patagonia Packing List
Below are the essentials I’m planning to bring for my 5-day W Trek hike, along with a few affiliate examples so you can see or shop each category for yourself.
Once I’m back from Patagonia, I’ll post an update sharing what worked, what didn’t, and which items I’d add (or leave behind) next time!
Core Gear
| Item | Example / Affiliate Link |
| Backpack (40-45 L) | Osprey Fairview 40 L Women’s Travel Pack |
| Puff Jacket | Patagonia Nano Puff Insulated Jacket or Outdoor Ventures Women’s Packable Lightweight Full-Zip Puffer Jacket (similar) |
| Rain Jacket | Rainier Rain Jacket – Kids’ or Columbia Women’s Arcadia II Jacket (similar) |
| Hiking Pants | REI Co-op Trailmade Pants or baleaf Women’s Hiking Pants (similar) |
| Hiking Boots | Columbia Women’s Newton Ridge Plus Hiking Boot |
| Camp Sandals | Birkenstock Women’s Arizona Black Slide Sandals |
| Sunscreen (SPF 30+) | Prequel Skin Sun Barrier Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 |
You might notice my rain jacket is actually a kids’ size — but since I’m basically kid-sized myself, it fits perfectly and costs less! Honestly, I think it works just as well as the adult version.
